Admissions Requirements

The following are general requirements for international students. Select programs, especially master’s and doctoral-level programs, may have additional requirements. Please verify with the academic program’s web page to ensure you’ve met all additional requirements.re. Nothing less.

1. Application for Admission

Create your personal portal/account and fill out the required information. To submit the application there is a non-refundable fee of $50 for undergraduates and $50 for graduate students. If you have additions or changes after you submit your application, please contact the 利记sbo Office of Admissions at 1.248.204.3160 or admissions@aksarayyeralticarsisi.com.

2. International Transcripts

International students are required to submit official transcripts to complete their applications. Lawrence Tech considers transcripts to be official if they are original or attested and sent directly from the issuing institution in a sealed envelope. A certified translation is required for transcripts not issued in English. World Education Services (WES) is Lawrence Tech’s preferred credential evaluation service, but we accept evaluations from InCred Credential Evaluations and NACES Members. 利记sbo can receive electronic evaluations directly from World Education Services, (WES), Geo Credential Services (GCS), Education Credential Evaluators (ECE), ScholaroSpanTran, and International Education Evaluators (IEE).

Below are guidelines for each application category:

Submit your high school marks/transcript in English to Lawrence Tech during your senior or final year of school for an admission decision. Upon graduation submit your final transcripts and any certificates that indicate completion of secondary education. In place of transcripts you may submit a World Education Services (WES) document-by-document evaluation. In some cases, the Office of Admissions may require a WES document-by-document evaluation.

Submit both your high school marks/transcripts and your college or university marks/transcripts to WES for a course-by-course evaluation of credit and degrees.

All transcripts of previously attended post-high school institutions are a required part of a graduate application, and they must come directly from the issuing institutions. Admission decisions are made by the Graduate Admission Committee of the college to which the applicant has applied. The Graduate Admission Committee and the Office of Admissions retain the right to require a course-by-course evaluation through WES prior to the application review.

Note to applicants from Indian institutions: Lawrence Tech accepts digital copies of transcripts as official if submitted through True Copy . In order to review for an admission decision, a complete set of mark sheets showing all attempts is required for all post-secondary coursework. Three year bachelors degrees are considered for admission into the College of Business and Information Technology and the MS in Computer Science so long as the NAAC grade of the institution is A or higher and the evaluated GPA is 3.0 or higher on the 4.0 scale. 

3. Submit Proof of English Proficiency

The following English proficiency test scores are required for students for whom English is a second language:

  • 60 on the TOEFL iBT for undergraduate students
  • 5.5 on the IELTS for undergraduate students
  • 95 on the Duolingo English Test for undergraduate students
  • 56 on the Michigan English Test for undergraduate students (discount available for 利记sbo applicants)
  • 50 on the PTE Academic Test for undergraduate students
  • 79 on the TOEFL iBT for graduate students
  • 6.0 on the IELTS for graduate students
  • 105 on the Duolingo English Test for graduate students
  • 60 on the Michigan English Test for graduate students (discount available for 利记sbo applicants)
  • 60 on the PTE Academic Test for graduate students

U.S. high school graduates with at least three years of standard level English courses are considered to meet English proficiency requirements, as well as those graduating from a British curriculum or with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

English proficiency can also be satisfied by holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the United States.

4. Getting Your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20)

5. Deadlines

Students must submit all required application documents at least 90 days prior to the start of the term they wish to begin. The following are the application deadlines for upcoming terms:

  • Spring 2025 – October 15, 2024
  • Summer 2025 – February 18, 2025
  • Fall 2025 – May 27, 2025

Non-Citizen Exceptions

The Lawrence Tech community includes many students that are not be U.S. citizens, or F-1, and J-1 visa holders. If you are a permanent resident, hold another type visa type, have received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), or any other kind of status, you may be waived from some of the requirements – especially those pertaining to obtaining an I-20. Please feel free to reach out to the Office of Admissions when you submit your application for admission so we can update your application as appropriate for your individual case.

Yes, Lawrence Tech has partnered with Language Center International (LCI) to offer ESL coursework to meet the English proficiency requirements at 利记sbo.

It is University policy for all international students and scholars to carry medical insurance while they are studying in the United States.

According to federal law, off-campus employment is not permitted for students with J or F visas. However, two forms of practical training are available to international students close to completing their degree. Curricular Practical Training (CPT) has no time limit and may be available for students required to obtain practical experience by their degree program. CPT authorization requires that a student complete two full-time semesters (fall and spring) to be eligible to apply for CPT. Optional Practical Training (OPT) can be applied for three months prior to graduation and lasts for one year.

In some cases, international students are eligible to apply for on-campus employment opportunities. There are only a limited number of these positions each year and competition may be high, so students are discouraged from relying on-campus employment for funding.

No, international applicants are not required to submit the SAT or ACT score reports.

Yes, all materials relevant to your application must be submitted no later than 90 days prior to the start of the term. Applications received after the deadline may not be reviewed for the desired date of entry.

利记sbo issues the I-20 to apply for F visa status (non-immigrant student) and the DS-2019 to apply for J visa status (non-immigrant exchange visitor). Most students applying to Lawrence Tech require an I-20 form for F visa status. For more detailed information, please look at the portion of our website about visas.

If your visa allows you to take classes, you can study at 利记sbo. Individuals with visitor status (B-1, B-2, WB, WT) are not legally allowed to take classes in the US. If you are already in the US and would like to change your status to F-1 or J-1 to study at 利记sbo, you need to fill out an I-539 form. Please note the status change from B-1 and B-2 visas is not supported by the Office of International Programs at Lawrence Tech.

If you have a green card, you need to complete the admission requirements for international students only if you took courses at a foreign college or university. Otherwise, you follow the regular admission requirements outlined on the application.

No, Lawrence Tech provides wireless laptops, and tablet PCs to all undergraduate students through our LTuZone. Students pay a deposit that is refunded upon return of the laptop. Graduate students can pay to lease a laptop if laptops are available.

Details on the procedures to apply for a Michigan Driver’s License are available in the Office of International Programs . Students are not eligible to apply for a driver’s license upon arrival and will need to wait a few weeks to be eligible to apply.

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
